Updates to insurance should be submitted at least five (5) business days prior to the expiration date and / or the effective date noted on the Certificate of Insurance (COI). This allows time for the insurance to be validated. Please be aware that Amazon’s third-party monitoring service does not review COIs on weekends or holidays.
Please note, your renewal/expiration date does not count as a business day.
Let’s look at a quick example:
Your company’s effective date on the COI is Friday, November 29th. In that case, you would need to notify Amazon by Wednesday, November 20th to account for the weekend and the Thanksgiving Day holiday on Thursday, November 28th. That would meet the requirement for at least 5 business days prior.
We have provided a step-by-step guide below to walk-through this process.

When an insurance company plans to cancel your coverage, they must notify FMCSA 30 days in advance. They’ll also send a cancellation notice either directly to you or to your insurance agent/broker.
This 30-day warning period gives you time to either resolve any issues or arrange new coverage before your insurance expires.
Pro Tip: Check your insurance status on the FMCSA website monthly. Don’t just rely on notifications from others – taking a few minutes each month to verify your status can prevent unexpected disruptions to your business.
In order to clear a cancelation, the COI needs to be updated.
